Beginning school goers need to feel accepted and welcome in the classroom. Name cards give the children this feeling of acceptance and a sense of self. The children colour their cards with pride. They learn to recognise the written forms of their own names and the names of their friends. OELP has designed a host of activties which use name cards for learning to read and write. This film clip provides a glimpse of one such activity which is being conducted with newly admitted Class 1 children in a rural government school in Rajasthan.
