The children in this film have just learned to read some new words. These words have been selected from the storybooks they have just read. The teacher in turn pulls out different children’s name cards. The child whose name is on the card, picks out a word card from a pile in the centre and then makes an oral sentence using that word. The children in this film are making simple sentences orally in Hindi, which is not their home language. Later they will learn to make more complex sentences, and then their teacher will ask them to make written sentences. This step by step approach helps these young children to gradually connect meaningfully with new vocabulary.
